How Much Do Custom T-Shirts Cost?

Your all-inclusive Newark Tees price is determined by three things:

  • The apparel you select
  • The total number of ink colors needed for printing (i.e. Fewer Ink Colors = Lower Costs)
  • The total quantity of items in your order (i.e. Printing in Bulk = Lower Costs)

That said, the Newark Tees pricing model is fair and transparent. The following chart shows sample pricing using a soft, premium 100% Combed Ring-Spun Cotton T-Shirt with a one-color design. This product is popular because of its affordability and it is available in a wide range of colors and sizes, however we work with major blank apparel brands to ensure you have the best options.

If you have any questions or would like a personalized quote please email us. We do not require minimums for DTG orders. From one t-shirt to 1,000+, we can get it done.

FAQs

What is screen printing?

Screen printing is a method where ink is applied directly to a surface, in this case, a t-shirt. The image you are looking to print is photographically transferred to a fabric mesh in which the non-printing areas are blocked off, making the fabric serve as a stencil.

The next step is to wipe the ink across the screen to pass through the unblocked areas to make its way onto the fabric. A separate screen is prepared for each additional color to be printed, and the process is repeated. This is why the number of colors are in your artwork determines pricing.

Is screen printing the best for t-shirts?

We offer a few different printing methods for t-shirts depending on which process best suits your artwork. Screen printing is the primary method we provide for most of our t-shirts. Alternatively, we offer digital printing (i.e., direct-to-garment printing) on selected projects.

The screen printing process starts with a screen (i.e., a stencil), and we apply layers of ink to its printing surface. For each color in your artwork, a different screen is applied to the garment, one at a time, blended to produce the final look.

Screen printing is best if you want the colors in your artwork to pop when printed on dark t-shirts. With screen printing, the ink is thicker than in direct-to-garment printing and produces brighter colors on dark t-shirts.

Our t-shirts are printed by hand, adding labor time and requiring extra materials, which is why we have a minimum quantity. Not to be confused with heat transfer, direct-to-garment printing ink directly adheres to your shirt's fabric. The printing process for each has its pros and cons, and our art team will review these when determining which method is best for your project.

Direct-to-garment is best if your artwork requires a large amount of detail or if you want a smaller quantity of t-shirts. As we mentioned earlier, direct-to-garment printing allows us to print photographs with a level of detail that is more difficult to achieve with screen printing.

Which ink is best for t-shirt printing?

There are three standard ink types that are most common on the market today -- plastisol, water-based, and discharge. You can also choose from a range of specialty inks including metallic, reflective, puff, glow in the dark, foil, fluorescent, cracking, and flock.

Plastisol ink is an oil based ink that was created primarily for custom t-shirt printing. It is the most popular option because it is the most versatile. If you are looking for bright, solid colors with minimal fading, this is a great option. Also, in terms of tonal designs and maintaining fine details with consistency across large print runs, plastisol is a solid choice.

Do you make custom photo t-shirts?

Yes, we offer two options for printing pictures on t-shirts. The first option is a method that involves us printing out your photo onto a flexible base material, then later transferring said material to a t-shirt. The second option involves digitally processing your photo through software and printing directly onto the surface of the garment.

Is same day t-shirt printing available?

Depending on the size of your order and the number of business days needed to complete it, rush t-shirt printing may be available for a fee. Please contact us to find out the specific options for ordering custom t-shirts in a rush.

Is there a minimum order on Newark Tees? Can I order just one custom t-shirt?

Back in the day, single shirt printing wasn't possible because screen printing was too expensive and cumbersome. Thanks to advances in technology over the past decade, we are able to product a single t-shirt with full color designs using our direct-to-garment digital printing. If you'd like to know the turnaround time and precisely how much single custom t-shirt printing would cost for your project, contact us.

What should my artwork file look like?

This simple answer is, .AI or .EPS files work the best. For Screen Printing, your file should be 300 DPI resolution in CMYK or Grayscale. For DTG (direct-to-garment), all files must have a transparent background. The following file formats are supported: JPG / PDF / TIFF / EPS / PSD / AI / PNG.

When can I pick up my custom t-shirts?

Avoid delivery charges and scheduling conflicts by picking up your order at our location. When your order is ready, we will contact you to reserve a time slot for you to pick up your order. Once you arrive at our pickup location, notify a Newark Tees team member that you’re picking up an order and your items will be brought to you.

Do I need an appointment to visit the space?

Yes, to follow proper capacity guidelines, entrance into our space is by appointment only.
